See how busy your destination is with FoursCrowd

We’ve just released the beta version of an app called FoursCrowd, which uses data from Foursquare to determine how busy a venue (a restaurant, stadium, etc.) is likely to be. It derives a rating based on the number of people currently checked in, as well as a confidence rating based on the venue’s calculated size. It's mainly an experiment to see how well we can map location services such as Foursquare to real-time activity. Check FoursCrowd before heading out to avoid getting caught in crowds or long lines.

Try it out at friendorb.com/fourscrowd in a location-enabled browser such as the one on your smartphone. Downloadable versions of the app will be available in the future. Until then, we’re continuing to tweak the model to make it more accurate, which will happen as Foursquare grows in popularity. We’re also in the process of integrating Google Maps to enhance the user experience.
