Google+ pages are here
It was certain that once Google+ pages became available, hordes of people, businesses, and organizations would join the platform. Sure enough, within a week plenty of notable companies such as ABC News, Macy’s, Toyota, and Pepsi launched their pages and have collected a slew of +1’s and followers into their circles. Google has changed the behavior of their search page so that typing "+[brand]" brings up the page for that brand if it exists. Before too long, these pages will find their way into general search results, increasing traffic even further.
Most of this adoption has come from larger firms, but smaller ones will follow quickly. Expect Google+ advertising to ramp up in the coming months, and expect to see Google+ buttons next to those of Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube on websites and advertisements. Don’t be surprised to see “+[brand]” on merchandise and advertisements to complement “like” and “follow.” Finally, expect some provision for vanity URL’s, whether it’s google.com/[page] or a special shortened URL.
Google+ represents a unique opportunity to start fresh on a new social platform. Even if it ultimately doesn’t climb to the number one position in its industry, the rapid release of new features along with support from major brands makes Google+ sure to catch on with the general population.
