How does the Ad Exchange work?

Upload an ad | Details, examples, & FAQ | Ad Exchange Market | Widget code | Tweet an ad | Get a QR code | Ad dashboard
The Ad Exchange is for website owners, bloggers, businesses, and anyone else who has a limited advertising budget. Actually, no budget is required, since the Ad Exchange uses the concept of social advertising to let you spread your message for free!

Option 1: Ad Exchange Widget
Upload your ad, then head to the Ad Market to pick an ad to adopt. Click "Adopt this ad" to get the widget code to post on your site or blog, and the more ads you serve, the more your ad will appear around our network of participants.

Option 2: Twitter + QR:
Have you been asking customers to follow you on Twitter, but seeing no results? Turn your followers into active promoters using Twitter plus QR codes! Post a QR banner in your store, restaurant, or anywhere else, and ask your patrons to scan it with their smartphone. When they do, they'll be brought to a mobile-friendly app where they'll automatically post a positive Tweet about you! You can use this without having posted an ad to the Exchange, but if you have, each tweet about you will count as a serve.

To the right is a screenshot of what the widget looks like on one of our participant's sites. No matter which option you chose, your own ad will perform better based on the number of ads you serve, the number of clicks your ads receive, and the number of people who adopt your ad on the market or tweet at you.

Examples of good & bad ads

To get the most benefit out of the Ad Exchange, you'll want to submit high-quality ads that entice people to view and click them. Here's how you can make sure your ad is approved and performs well:

Good ads: These are high-quality, descriptive ads that were accepted.

Bad ads: These were rejected because they are are low-quality or generic images that don't indicate what the target website is about.

The rules

To make the Ad Exchange work for all participants, we've set some ground rules:

FAQ's

How can I be sure that the ads displayed on my site will be appropriate?
We pre-screen all ads to make sure they are high-quality images and do not pertain to illegal, illicit, or questionable topics. In consideration of all Ad Exchange participants, we always err on the side of safety when determining if an ad is appropriate.

How many ads can I upload?
You can upload as many ads as you'd like, and we'll approve them as long as they are deemed appropriate and high-quality per the guidelines on the upload page. Be advised that duplicate ads and repeated submissions of inappropriate ads will not be accepted.

How can I ensure my ad is accepted?
First, make sure your ad image is high-quality (that is, clear and legible) and descriptive. This means it should be a high-quality logo, product image, or similar, and not a generic picture, clip-art, personal photo, etc. Second, make sure your caption is descriptive, such as a product name or slogan. Promotional captions such as "buy today" or "follow us" will not be accepted.

Can I re-upload an ad that was previously rejected?
Sure. If you have modified the image, caption, or URL as indicated in the rejection message, feel free to re-submit the ad.

How can I tell how my ads are performing?
Visit the Ad Exchange dashboard to see your ad's performance, including views and clicks.

My ad is not receiving any views or clicks. How can I improve it's performance?
Remember, in order for your ad to be displayed throughout the Ad Exchange network, you need to post the widget code on your own website. The more ads you show on your own website, the more times your ad will be shown around the network. If you merely upload your ad, but do not post the widget on your own site, your ad will be shown very rarely, if at all. This social aspect is what makes the Ad Exchange beneficial to all participants.
